Emergency Tips

Do these first while help is on the way

All tips →

Keep the bird in a ventilated box

Line a cardboard box with soft cloth, punch airholes on the sides, and gently place the bird inside. Keep the lid closed to reduce stress.

Do not force food or water

Injured birds can easily choke. Never insert water or food into the beak. Wait for a trained volunteer or vet.

Keep pets and children away

Even friendly pets can further traumatise a hurt bird. Move it to a quiet, dim, warm room.

Do not touch injured wings

Wings are delicate. Pick up the bird by cupping the body gently. Never lift by the wings or legs.

Contact a trained volunteer
